A Democratic Blue Wave does not mean peace is at hand, in fact, when it comes to Russia and Ukraine, it means the opposite
A potential decisive victory of the US Democratic Party in the country’s midterm elections could pose a risk of escalating the conflict in Ukraine, according to James Carden, a retired diplomat and former advisor to the US-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission.
Carden told TASS that the war in Ukraine will continue regardless of the election result, but a Democratic win could lead to increased rhetorical attacks on Trump and pressure on him to maintain the war effort. He noted that a Democratic victory does not mean peace is at hand, but rather the opposite when it comes to Russia and Ukraine.
The United States is currently holding its midterm congressional elections, with one-third of the Senate and all seats in the House of Representatives contested. The outcome of these elections may have significant implications for US President Donald Trump’s foreign policy agenda, particularly with regards to Ukraine.
Carden, who currently serves as a board member and senior adviser at the American Committee for US-Russia Accord, warned that a Democratic win could lead to increased pressure on Trump to escalate the conflict in Ukraine. This could have serious consequences for the region and for US-Russia relations, which are already strained.
The situation in Ukraine remains volatile, and any escalation of the conflict could have far-reaching consequences. It is not yet clear how the US will respond to the situation in Ukraine, but it is clear that the outcome of the midterm elections will play a significant role in shaping US foreign policy in the region.
