Write for Faultline Journal
We publish a small number of pieces by invited contributors and carefully selected external submissions.
What we are looking for
Faultline Journal publishes original analytical and opinion writing by people with genuine expertise in geopolitics, conflict, energy, economics, diplomacy, strategy, and related fields. We are not a general-interest publication or an open platform.
We are looking for:
- Analysis pieces that use evidence and structured argument to illuminate a specific question or situation
- Opinion essays that stake a clear, well-reasoned position
- Essays that bring depth and conceptual clarity to questions of international order and disorder
- Briefings: timely, focused analytical pieces of 600–900 words
What we are not looking for
- News reports or chronological recaps of events
- Advocacy pieces without genuine analytical grounding
- Pieces that have been previously published elsewhere without significant new material
- Unsolicited personal essays or travelogue material
Length and format
We accept pieces between 800 and 3,500 words. Briefings typically run 600–900 words. Essays may be longer. We do not have a house style template, but we expect clear structure, strong argument, and intellectual honesty.
The submission process
Our submissions process is selective and editorially reviewed. We do not guarantee responses to all submissions. Pieces that proceed to review will receive editorial feedback. We do not publish pieces without contributor agreement on any edits.
How to submit
Send a pitch of no more than 200 words to [email protected]. Include a short bio and any relevant previous publications or credentials. We do not accept unsolicited full manuscripts in the first instance.
We read all pitches and respond within three weeks to those we wish to pursue.
